A territory rich in history, nature and unique gastronomic products.
What will we do:
Meeting with your guide at your hotel and departure for Romagna. Just before Cesena we enter the E45, the road that connects Ravenna to Rome crossing the Apennines on a surprising journey. In Mongelli we leave the Savio river to enter the Rubicon Valley to Sogliano al Rubicone. A beautiful village of 3500 people that develops around Piazza Matteotti and its Butterfly Fountain.
What makes Sogliano special is the cheese of Fossa, a cheese that is matured in "Fosse" dug into the ground and carefully covered with straw, where the product, protected in linen sheets is left, in the absence of oxygen, for 90 days. What is obtained is unique and inimitable, a specialty much appreciated by chefs and connoisseurs from all over the world.
The origins date back to the Malatesta era, the pits were used to protect and hide from the raids of brigands and even soldiers, grain in winter and cheese in summer. The techniques used then are the same as those used today.
We will continue our day with a stop for lunch in a beautiful farmhouse between Sogliano and our next destination, Verucchio, a small beautiful village half an hour from Sogliano, lying between two hills of the Rimini plain on the border with San Marino overlooking the Marecchia Valley. Cradle of the power of the Malatesta, Verucchio bears the signs with very beautiful historic buildings, elegant streets and an imposing and wonderfully preserved Rocca Malatestiana, also called Rocca del Sasso.
Beautiful squares open onto the streets, small bars, shops and the feeling of being in another era. Do not miss the sunset over the Marecchia Valley and the Rimini coast.
In the late afternoon return to Bologna with the option of a stop-tasting at the Enoteca Regionale dell'Emilia Romagna in the Castle of Dozza Imolese.
